Thinking Rock allows you to collect your thoughts and process them into actions, projects,
reference items or someday/maybe items. Actions can be done by you, delegated to someone else or scheduled for a particular date. Projects can be organised with ordered actions and sub-projects. You can review all of your actions, projects and other information quickly and easily to see what you need to do or to choose what you want to do at a particular time.

NeoOffice (Free).

NeoOffice is a full-featured set of office applications (including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, drawing, and database programs) for Mac OS X. Based on the OpenOffice.org office suite, NeoOffice has integrated dozens of native Mac features and can import, edit, and exchange files with other popular office programs such as Microsoft Office.

NeoOffice 2.2.3 includes all of the features in OpenOffice.org 2.2.1 and includes many of the features that Microsoft Office 2008 includes. However, since NeoOffice is funded entirely by the time and money donated by our users, NeoOffice may not support some of the more complex Microsoft Office features or documents. Celestia Add-Ons (Free).

Last Friday, I featured Celestia, a free space simulation that lets you explore our universe in three dimensions. But there's way more that can be done with Celestia.

Welcome to Celestia Motherlode.

The Celestia Motherlode is a repository for various addons like textures, models or celestial objects for Celestia. Celestia is a free, interactive (real-time), 3D astronomy program. It doesn't just show you the sky as it can be seen from earth as most planetarium software does, but allows you to move to and view the universe from any point between the planets and the stars. The Celestia Motherlode hosts over 10 GB of Celestia addons by various creators, which extend or change the way Celestia renders the universe.

Aquallegro (Free).

Aquallegro is a great way to improve your musical ability. It contains quizzes on various aspects of music, as well as detailed help files with tips and mnemonics. All of the quizzes are scored while in progress, so the user continuously knows how well they're doing, and it is easy to customize Aquallegro so it works the way you want it to. It also contains Administrative features for teachers, making it an excellent tool in any music program.

Validator S.A.C. (Free).

Validator S.A.C. (Stand Alone Complex) is a stand-alone, easy to install, version of the W3C's HTML / XHTML Markup Validator for Mac OS X. Validator S.A.C. is a normal Mac OS X application. No installation is required, just put Validator S.A.C. where you need it (hard drive, flash drive, CD-R, etc).

Validator S.A.C. can validate local files, as well as pages on local web sites. Validate using the stand-alone Favelet, drag and drop files and URLs onto the application icon, or simply use File > Open.

Validator S.A.C. can also be setup as a Web Service, allowing users to validate over the local network. See the Advanced Topics section for details.

A simple soft synth for Mac OS X that takes input from a connected MIDI device and can play instruments from Soundfonts and DLS files including Apple's default General MIDI sound set. Small but powerful!

Nodal (Free).

Nodal Version 1.0 Released!

Nodal is a generative software application for composing music. It uses a novel method for the notation and playing of MIDI based music. This method is based around the concept of a user-defined graph. The graph consists of nodes (musical events) and edges (connections between events). You interactively define the graph, which is then traversed by any number of players who play the musical events as they encounter them on the graph. The time taken to travel from one node to another is based on the length of the edges that connect the nodes

Nodal is free software available for Mac OS X based computers.


Working with Nodal

Nodal does not make any sound by itself – it only generates MIDI data. You will need a MIDI synthesiser to hear the output that Nodal is making. Nodal is compatible with any MIDI synthesiser. For simple demonstrations we recommend SimpleSynth.

Nodal will also work with Apple's GarageBand software.
